At Mograph TV we love showcasing beautiful short films and the process that goes into making them. Chris and I felt it would be cool to take things from a different angle and talk about bigger movies that you’ll probably see in theaters. What better than to kick things off with Inception!
If you haven’t already seen Inception and would like to get an idea of what the story is about, please check out the wiki page.
Often times when I see movies in theaters (even great ones) I tend to get annoyed with sitting in the same place for so long. With Inception I was totally locked into the story from scene one. I guess it also helps that I’m a huge Leonardo DiCaprio fan. He usually lands up with great roles such as what he played in Titanic, The Beach, Catch Me if You Can, and Inception is no exception (cool, that rhymes).
I was totally blown away by the core concept being an exploration of dreams and how ideas can be planted into your head. Ideas are constantly flowing through mine so it was easy to relate. I also really enjoyed Adriadne (Ellen Page‘s) role, I felt she kept Dom inline dealing with the guilt associated to Mal. My mind was rushing at the point of the van falling off the bridge. As all the actors were shifting through each level of dreaming, it was so amazing how everything fit together. The ending also rocked me, I love being left questioning what happened to the spinner (I’ll assume it tipped over and stopped so I can sleep at night or… Inception 2?
).
I checked out this short film regarding the sound design before heading to the theatres and the audio was absolutely incredible. The Orchestra music flowed so well with the adventure they faced.
Chris’ words on Inception: What an intriguing concept. The possibilities within a dream are endless and that’s exactly where this film is set. We’re brought into a world where information theft directly from a victims sleeping subconscious is a viable form of espionage.
Director Christopher Nolan impressively shows us how the feeling of endless possibilities with the use of clever cinematography instead of heavy on visual effects. Moments of heavy visual effects, mainly intense dream construction, were quite impressive and really humbled you as a viewer, questioning the world we’re seeing. Nolan opted for implied shifts in perception and clever cues connecting differing levels of consciousness within dreams. For example one shot shows DiCaprio submerged into a tub of water in order to wake him up. Within the dream the room he’s standing in is flooded with an onslaught of water pouring in the windows.
Another of my favorite scenes is a gravity shifting struggle in a hotel hallway. Instead of opting for visual effects for this shot, Nolan constructed the hallway within a converted airship hangar north of London. This film plants a sense of wonder and bends the perceptions of anyone who watches. Check it out!

Nice article.
This film is gonna be awesome! Chris Nolan will not disappoint us, I Hope…
I already saw the second video and it give me more good vibrations about the film.
(sorry If my English it’s not perfect)
Haha it’s all good man
it’s great to get feedback about the article! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah you really need to see Inception, it’s so amazing!
Let me know what you think of it when you land up seeing it!
Yeah, the film will release in Spain on 6/08, I’m still waiting… xD
Yeah this movie stunned me. It made me think so much I saw it again before the opening weekend was even over!!
As for the ending, I loved it!! Because it WASNT the satisfying ending everyone in the theater was expecting!! For me it made me think why it really mattered. You didnt see Cobb’s totem fall over, but you can easily assume as much, but does it matter if it did? It really went along with the whole theme of not knowing whether a dream is real or not. Gahh! another thing im not totally sure about that i need to follow up on is that apparently Saito was holding Cobb’s totem at the beginning and end of the movie, pretty much implying it was all just a dream anyway!! hmm. seems i need to confirm this with another showing!
Whoa geeze… that’s a real spin, I didn’t hear that at all about the totem. It would be interesting if you could follow up with that!
Thanks so much for the insightful comment Wren!
